Game Day Cocktails and Food Pairings for NFL Kickoff Weekend

For a lot of houses, the NFL season opener means a cooler on the porch, a bag of chips split open on the counter, and whatever beer was on sale. Nothing wrong with that. But if you're looking to elevate your game day, keep reading, this post is for you.

The Elevated Game Day Bar

The NFL season opens Wednesday, September 9, when the Seahawks host the Patriots in a Super Bowl rematch, and the rest of the league follows that first full Sunday, September 13. For a lot of houses, that means a cooler on the porch, a bag of chips split open on the counter, and whatever beer was on sale. Nothing wrong with that. But if you're looking to elevate your game day, keep reading, this post is for you.

Traditional Football Sunday food, drinks for every quarter and garnish that's done, dry, and ready to go straight from the bag to the glass. No cutting board required between the national anthem and kickoff.

Nobody's hosting duties should end at "beer's in the cooler." A good garnish takes less effort than finding a bottle opener.

The Garnish Guide

Pregame: The GameDay Spritz

Welcome guests with ease – You need something lighter that still feels thoughtful and intentional. Sweet vermouth and a dry Prosecco split the difference: all the flavor of an aperitif, none of the weight of hard liquor before noon.

Recipe · Cocktail

01. The GameDay Spritz

Ingredients

Sweet vermouth — 2 oz
Dry Prosecco — 3 oz
Splash of soda water

Method

  1. Fill a wine glass with ice.
  2. Add sweet vermouth, then top with Prosecco.
  3. Finish with a short splash of soda water.
  4. Garnish with a dehydrated lemon or orange wheel dropped in whole.
Heads Up

Built For The Long Haul

Low ABV, easy to keep pouring through the pregame show, and it looks like something you'd order at a bar, not something poured out of a box.

kick off w/ a Peach Marg

Once everyone's settled in, kick it up a knotch! A peach margarita brings late-summer sweetness into fall without feeling out of place — it's the drink for people who want something bright before the bourbon comes out.

Recipe · Cocktail

02. Peach Margarita

Ingredients

Blanco tequila — 2 oz
Peach purée or peach nectar — 1 oz
Fresh lime juice — 3/4 oz
Orange liqueur — 1/2 oz

Method

  1. Shake tequila, peach purée, lime juice, and orange liqueur hard with ice.
  2. Strain over fresh ice.
  3. Garnish with a dehydrated lime wheel on the rim.
Heads Up

Batch It

Easy to batch in a pitcher before kickoff.

Halftime: Seasonal Old Fashioned

September is Bourbon Heritage Month, and halftime is the natural moment to slow down and pour something that deserves a little attention — no shaker, no rush, just a good stir and a drink that tastes like the season actually changed.

Recipe · Cocktail

03. Apple Old Fashioned

Ingredients

Apple-infused bourbon — 2 oz
Maple syrup — 1/4 oz
ATB Aromatic Bitters — 2 dashes
1 cinnamon stick

Method

  1. Combine bourbon, maple syrup, and bitters over one large ice cube.
  2. Stir until well chilled, about 20 seconds.
  3. Garnish with a dehydrated apple slice and a cinnamon stick standing in the glass.
Heads Up

No Browning, No Bruising

The dehydrated apple holds its shape and doesn't brown the way a fresh-cut slice does sitting in a warm room for three hours. The cinnamon stick does double duty as a stir stick for round two.

The Final Drive: The Hail (Bloody) Mary

This is the drink for whoever's still standing by the fourth quarter: a proper Sunday Cocktail with enough going on in the glass to double as a snack.

Recipe · Cocktail

04. The Hail (Bloody) Mary

Ingredients

Vodka — 1 oz
Fresh lime juice — 1 oz
Hot sauce — 3-4 dashes
Worcestershire sauce — 2 dashes
Pinch of black pepper
Tajín, for the rim
2 green olives
1 celery stalk

Method

  1. Wet the rim of a pint glass with a lime wedge and coat with Tajín.
  2. Fill the glass with ice, add vodka, lime juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire, and black pepper.
  3. Top with Garage Beer Classic Lime, poured slow to keep the head down.
  4. Give it one gentle stir to combine.
  5. Garnish with a dehydrated lemon wheel propped on the rim, olives and celery stalk speared on a skewer alongside.
Heads Up

Why The Wheel Beats The Wedge

The dehydrated lemon wheel is doing something a fresh wedge can't — it sits on top instead of sinking, holds its color the whole game, and doesn't turn the rim soggy by the fourth quarter.

Pro Tip

Set up all four drink stations before kickoff, each with its respective liquor, glasses and garnish bowl already out.

What's On The Table: Game Day food

You don't need to reinvent game day food — you need to give the classics an upgrade.

Wings, Two Ways

Classic buffalo alongside a Tajín-lime version finished with a squeeze of fresh lime. Same fryer, two flavor profiles, zero extra dishes.

Gameday Chili

Sour cream, shredded cheddar, sliced jalapeño on the side, set out so people can build their own bowl.

Elevated Nachos

Build the base the way you always do, finished with fresh cilantro and a squeeze of lime right before serving.

A Cheese And Charcuterie Board That Isn't Trying Too Hard

Sharp cheddar, salami, crackers, and a few dehydrated orange and apple slices mixed in where you'd normally put grapes. They don't go soft under room-temperature lighting the way fresh fruit does over a three-hour game.

Building The Bar Before Kickoff

None of this requires a full bar cart or a trip to three different stores. A bag of CGC dehydrated lemon, lime, orange, and apple covers all four drinks above, plus the cheese board. Pack it dry, portion it into small bowls at each station, and you're done — no last-minute produce run, no soggy garnish by the fourth quarter, and nothing going in the trash when the final whistle blows.

Build Your Game Day Kit

Four varieties cover every drink above plus the board: orange, lemon, lime, and apple. One order, one Sunday setup, all season long.

Every wheel is hand-sliced in New York, dehydrated with no sulfur and no added sugar, and shelf-stable for nine months and up. No prep, no waste, no browning on the rail.
